Good to Know

Answers to common questions and helpful information
to know for your Sacred Serpent Ceremony!

Relax!    Open!    Surrender!     Receive!     Enjoy!

  • Venom?    These snakes are absolutely NOT poisonous.
  • Biting?     Everything with a mouth can bite, and like all animals (and humans for that matter) we cannot always predict behaviors. Since humans are not the size, type, nor smell, of the serpent's prey, snakes generally have zero need to bite a human, and these snakes have never bitten anyone in ceremony. It is amazing how gentle and intuitive they can be.
  • Constriction?     Pythons & Boas are known as constrictors because they do constrict their prey. It is extremely rare for a snake to constrict a human to discomfort or death, and if so, it is usually under some extraordinary circumstance. In ceremony, compression is usually an invitation to pay attention and open to the area they are lovingly squeezing; common experience is that they help us unwind deep rooted tension or trauma through this method.
  • Fears?     Part of Serpent Ceremony may include coming in contact with fears, other strong emotions, or even traumas. This could be inherently uncomfortable, but I have guided people into integration and transformation around such experiences in various forms for about 20 years. Clients have described me as grounded, empathic, and capable of drawing them into deeper consciousness. I will be with you in ceremony, and will guide you though.  Also, snakes do not react to fear, etc. like cats or dogs do.  These snakes really don’t care what your emotional state is – all is welcome.
  • Attire?     Be comfortable. Wear soft, breathable, moveable clothing such as for a yoga class. Limit sequins or items the snake’s soft bellies or scales could get caught on. Consider layers as we need to keep the room warm for the serpents (they are cold blooded and need heat). Also wear something easily washable, and not your most precious outfit, just in case the dance goes really deep and all beings relax fully; the snakes might pee (this is rare but possible).
It is best to avoid wearing
jewelry or valuables. They love to squeeze into things like hoop earrings, necklaces and bracelets and inadvertently break them. These beings have also been known to play with my glasses, so if you have the option to wear contacts instead, I recommend that, or leaving your glasses to the side (if not, no worries – I’ve had quite a laugh with crooked glasses that I can’t see out of, or we can adjust the snakes in a different direction [see how to dance with snakes below]).
  • Scents?     Snakes are incredibly sensitive to smell, and may slither away if the scent is too much. For the best dance, avoid perfumes, fragrant lotions, essential oils, etc. Natural is divine.
  • Other Pet Smells?     If you have pet mice, rats, guinea pigs, or the like – ensure you wash well before handling the snakes. These scents may lead them to focus on where the food is, vs. the dance.
  • How do I dance with snakes?      Authentically from within! This is a respectful two-bodied dance. Although the snakes will intuitively go where they feel called, you are a consensual participant so move them gently (or ask me for assistance) if you need. Primo once seemed to think it was great fun to try to tickle my ear with his tail, but after a brief giggle it was no longer fun for me, so I respectfully moved his tail and our beautiful dance continued.
Snakes are vulnerable too, and like to know you are there and present, so a solid grip is comforting to them. They want to know you have them. Serpents do not generally have great sight and they read you more as a heat source, so if you move too rapidly, you appear to them like an unknown blob of heat coming at them – kindly be sensitive and move with conscientiousness.
  • Physical Capacity Information?     Saint V weighs 20 pounds so be sure you can handle that weight on you. She will mostly hang from a shoulder or such so specific strength is not needed though. Snakes will also squeeze to hold onto you. This generally feels like a great hug, but it can be surprising to feel how strong they are. Again, we can easily adjust them if anything is uncomfortable.
  • Special Accommodations?     Zafus, cushions, chairs, mats or the like will be provided. If there are any special accommodations you might need, please let me know and I will do all I can to provide. This ceremony is OPEN TO ALL adults (and teens with permission). You are welcome here.

ENJOY!
